Anton Yelchin was born on March 11, 1989 in St. Petersburg, Russia to Viktor and Irina Yelchin. His parents were professional pairs figure skaters ranked third in the country, and had previously qualified for the 1972 Winter Olympics. Citing persecution because of their Jewish faith, they left Russia when Anton was six months old and claimed refugee status in the United States. Anton started acting at the age of nine in an independent film called 'A Man Is Mostly Water'. His first major film role was in 'Hearts In Atlantis', for which he won a Young Artist Award for Best Young Actor. At sixteen he played kidnap victim Zack Mazursky in the movie 'Alpha Dog', for which he received critical acclaim. More plaudits came for his portrayal of the eponymous hero in the teen comedy 'Charlie Bartlett' in 2007. Yelchin's first high profile TV role was as Byrd Hoffstodt, the son of the main character in the seies 'Hoff'(2004). Previous to this he had guest starred in single episodes of 'ER', 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' and 'NYPD Blue'. In 2009 Anton appeared as the young Pavel Chekov in Star Trek and as Kyle Reese in Terminator : Salvation.
